In the Ant-Man franchise, which of the four actresses casts in Ant-Man And The Wasp in 2018 and in Ant-Man And The Wasp:Quantumania in 2023 but not in the first film in 2015

LEVEL 2 — 🎬 FILM ENTHUSIAST

We begin this Level 2 quiz with some relatively well-known movies, most of them released after the beginning of the new millennium. The questions are not too difficult and should be a good match for the Film Enthusiast level: familiar enough to give you a chance, but with a few details that may test how well you remember the movies. So, let's enter the impressive world of Marvel superheroes and start with a hero who is much smaller than most of his fellow Avengers, but certainly no less important. Ant-Man was created by Stan Lee, Larry Lieber and Jack Kirby and first appeared in the comics in 1962. The original Ant-Man was scientist Hank Pym, who could shrink his body using a special substance known as Pym Particles. Over the years, the name Ant-Man was also used by other characters, most notably Scott Lang. The first major attempt to bring Ant-Man to the big screen was developed by Edgar Wright and Joe Cornish, who worked on the project and its screenplay for many years. However, after a long period of development, Wright left the film in 2014 because of creative differences with Marvel. The project continued with Peyton Reed as director, while the screenplay was changed considerably. The first Ant-Man movie was released in 2015, with Paul Rudd as Scott Lang and Michael Douglas as scientist Hank Pym. It was followed by two more films, Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018) and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (2023). Ant-Man also became part of the larger Marvel story, appearing in Captain America: Civil War (2016) and Avengers: Endgame (2019). Now, let's see how much you remember about the smallest superhero in the Marvel universe.

We continue with Stephen King's novel Dreamcatcher, which was adapted for the screen in 2003 by director Lawrence Kasdan. Four friends with telepathic abilities, played by Thomas Jane, Jason Lee, Damian Lewis and Timothy Olyphant, come into contact with a strange alien life form that turns their quiet trip into a terrifying fight for survival. We are looking for the fifth main actor, who appears about 40 minutes into the film, playing the military commander of a special unit assigned to contain the alien infection. The beautiful snow-covered landscapes of Canada were captured by Australian cinematographer John Seale, while the music by James Newton Howard creates a dark, ominous and eerie atmosphere that fits perfectly with the strange and unsettling world of the film.

Mandy Moore and John Krasinski are getting ready to get married in the 2007 American comedy License to Wed, directed by Ken Kwapis. But they soon discover that their priest is not exactly a normal one. First, Reverend Frank wants to make sure that they are really ready for marriage. He puts the couple through a special marriage preparation program. They must attend his unusual classes, where they talk about the difficulties and responsibilities of married life. He also gives them an electronic baby to look after, as a test of how they would deal with having a child. He tests their trust by making Sadie drive with her eyes closed while Ben sits beside her and guides her. And as if that wasn't enough, he even places a hidden microphone in their bedroom so he can listen to their conversations and check if they are following his rules. Do you remember who played this rather crazy priest?

Telefon (1977) is based on the 1975 novel of the same name by American writer Walter Wager. It is a Cold War conspiracy thriller about a KGB agent who becomes involved in a dangerous plot in the United States, with Lee Remick also playing an important role in the story. Wager was a very prolific writer whose novels often dealt with espionage, political conspiracies, and international intrigue. He also wrote under the pseudonym John Tiger, and several of his books were adapted for the screen. One of his earlier novels, Twilight's Last Gleaming, published in 1971, became the 1977 American thriller directed by Robert Aldrich and starring Burt Lancaster and Richard Widmark. Another of Wager's novels, the airport-based thriller 58 Minutes, published in 1987, later became the basis for the 1990 action film Die Hard 2, starring Bruce Willis. Through books such as Telefon, Twilight's Last Gleaming, and 58 Minutes, Wager became a notable name in the world of political and action thrillers, creating stories that moved easily from the page to the big screen.

Next, we move on to the romantic drama A Walk on the Moon, directed by Tony Goldwyn in 1999 and produced by Dustin Hoffman. The story follows Pearl Kantrowitz, a married woman whose life begins to change during a summer vacation in the Catskills. She is married to Marty, played by Liev Schreiber, but her marriage is tested when she meets a free-spirited traveling salesman and begins an unexpected romance with him. Pearl is also the mother of a 14-year-old daughter, Alison, played by Anna Paquin. The film explores love, marriage, temptation, and the difficult choices that can change a family forever.

Next, we move on to Mandy, a surrealist action horror film directed by Panos Cosmatos in 2018. The story follows Red, a lumberjack whose peaceful life with his girlfriend, Mandy Bloom, is destroyed when she is murdered by Jeremiah Sand, the fanatical leader of a strange cult. Red sets out on a brutal quest for revenge, facing Sand and his devoted followers in a violent and hallucinatory journey. The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival on January 19, 2018, and is also notable for its music by Jóhann Jóhannsson. Mandy was one of the last films he scored before his death in February 2018, just seven months before the film's release. The film was dedicated to his memory.

Charles Dance made his directorial debut with the 2004 British drama Ladies in Lavender, which he also wrote. The two women we are looking for are the film's two leading actresses and longtime friends in real life. They were appearing together in a play in London's West End when Dance first approached them about the project. They immediately accepted, without even reading the script. Dance said they were his only choices for the lead roles and that, without them, the film would never have happened.

We move on to a smart and funny film from 1994, with a brilliant script and three actors clearly having a great time. The Ref, also known as Hostile Hostages in some countries, is a black comedy directed by Ted Demme and written by Richard LaGravenese and Marie Weiss. The story follows a burglar who, while trying to escape the police, is forced to take a bickering and deeply dysfunctional family hostage on Christmas Eve.

Next, we move on to a Hollywood blockbuster that was first made in 1981 under the same title, Clash of the Titans. In 2010, French director Louis Leterrier, known for his action films, made his own version, with a huge and impressive cast. The filmmakers took the ancient Greek myth of Perseus and reshaped it for the big screen, adding some elements, removing others, and changing the story wherever it suited their vision. The result was a spectacular Hollywood blockbuster.

Gene Kelly, Logan Lerman, Don Ameche, Douglas Fairbanks, Maximilian Schell, Chris O'Donnell and Michael York are actors from very different generations, backgrounds and eras of cinema. Yet they all have something in common: they have played the same famous character in different films, from the early days of cinema to modern times. Across decades, countries and changing film styles, this character has continued to return to the screen, taking on a different face with each new generation of actors.

Sam Claflin is one of the most productive British actors of his generation, and his talent helped him rise quickly. In 2014 alone, he appeared in the blockbuster The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1, the thriller The Quiet Ones, and The Riot Club, directed by Lone Scherfig, where he played a snobbish aristocratic student. He also starred in the romantic comedy-drama Love, Rosie, based on Cecelia Ahern's novel Where Rainbows End. Over the years, Claflin has shared the screen with some of Hollywood's best-known actresses, including Charlize Theron, Jennifer Lawrence, Emilia Clarke, Gemma Arterton, Rachel Weisz, Shailene Woodley and Michelle Monaghan. But for this question, we are looking for the actress who played Rosie Dunne opposite him in Love, Rosie.

And we close this quiz with How to Be Single, the 2016 comedy directed by Christian Ditter, which follows a group of women as they experience love, friendship and single life in New York. One of them is Rebel Wilson, who brings her own energetic and comic style to the film. And with that, our twelve-question journey through different eras, stories, characters and actors comes to an end. We hope you enjoyed the ride, discovered something new and, of course, had some fun along the way. Now it is time to see how many answers you got right!
